* Single homeowner needs $74,000 for a modest retirement spending $32,000 per year, with the rest (91 per cent) supplemented by the age pension

* Single renter needs $274,000 for a modest retirement, spending $47,000 per year, with the rest (74 per cent) supplemented by the age pension

* Single homeowner needs $322,000 for a comfortable retirement of $44,000 per year, with the remainder (67 per cent) supplemented by the age pension

* Single renter needs $659,000 for a comfortable retirement of $63,000 per year, with the remainder (52 per cent) supplemented by the age pension

* Homeowner couple need $99,000 for a modest retirement of $47,000 per year, with the rest (92 per cent) supplemented by the age pension

* Renting couple need $298,000 for a modest retirement of $63,000 per year, with the remainder (79 per cent) supplemented by the age pension

* Homeowner couple need $432,000 for a comfortable retirement of $64,000 per year, with the rest (70 per cent) supplemented by the age pension

* Renting couple need $786,000 for a comfortable retirement of $84,000 per year, with the rest (58 per cent) supplemented by the age pension
