CPB IN THE COMMUNITY

Fred & Robert cross the line at Goolwa.

Mutual Community Tour Down Under Challenge.

Fred & Robert took up the 'challenge' to cycle the Mutual Community Challenge event that was part of this year's Tour down under.

The event commenced at 6.30am on the Norwood Parade and tracked its way through the Adelaide Hills, Athelstone, Lenswood, Lobethal, peaking at Woodside, before the 'down hill' run through Mt Baker and finishing at Goolwa via Milang. In all 160kms (Robert) (or 110kms if you elected to start at Woodside, (Fred)).

The boys trained for weeks prior to the event, Robert having the advantage of living near the hills while Fred, a local Largs Bay resident had to ride 30km before he could even find a hill to train on!

While Robert trained the house down regularly with long rides and the odd triathlon, (he is now officially a fitness 'addict') Fred's preparation was measured, sometimes hampered by circumstance and the odd 'incident' (those parked cars are a nuisance!) In the end, a cooler day and the adrenalin rush of participating with over 8000 other riders carried both our boys along. Not even a strong and dusty head wind out of Milang could stop them although they were both glad to turn the corner south towards Goolwa.

It was a very enjoyable day, (at least those in the support vehicle) as Robert & Fredcompleted the ride and posted very respectable times. Well done to both of them. I think they arekeen for a repeat performance next year!
